Temperature Effects on TPE/TPR Overmolding of ABS
October 17, 2025
The relationship between temperature and melt viscosity in TPE/TPR materials differs significantly from conventional thermoplastics. While initial heating reduces viscosity, exceeding optimal processing temperatures increases viscosity, complicating secondary molding and compromising product performance.
Common Defects and Solutions:
Short Shots: Caused by insufficient temperature; remedied by increasing injection temperature
Part Lines/Flash: Result from excessive temperature; corrected by reducing injection temperature
Surface Defects (orange peel, poor gloss): Often indicate low temperature; improved by elevating processing temperature
