SABIC, a global leader in diversified chemicals, hosted the first-ever Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Conference in Riyadh on May 6 in collaboration with BFA under the theme “Energy Transition for a Sustainable Development .”
Held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Minister of Energy, and attended by His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, BFA Chairman and the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations, and His Excellency Dr. Zhou Xiaochuan, Vice Chairman of BFA.
Addressing a panel discussion on “Energy Transition for a Sustainable Development,” Abdulrahman Al-Fageeh, SABIC CEO and BFA board member, said, “For the chemical industry to fulfil its decarbonizing role in the global market, close international collaboration will be required between companies linked by product value chains.”
“There is huge potential for value-chain collaboration and development not only in the regional markets of the Far and Middle East but also the worldwide export market,” he added.
The Riyadh Conference helped further promote practical cooperation and deepen cross-regional collaboration, with attendance of business delegates representing around 50 companies. It further strengthened the 16-year-long partnership between BFA and SABIC, which share the commitment to promoting economic integration in Asia and pooling positive energy for a sustainable and inclusive growth.
Facing increasing global challenges, SABIC -- as pioneer of the chemical industry -- is enabling energy transition for a sustainable future in the spirit of collaboration and innovation.
SABIC has been leveraging the BFA as an important platform to deepen its participation in various industries and solidifying its commitment to the Chinese market. A notable milestone in this regard is the groundbreaking ceremony for a new 44.8-billion-yuan world-scale petrochemical complex, a joint venture between SABIC and Fujian Energy Petrochemical.
